Harwyn Music Towers – Small footprint, big space

Harwyn pods have been gaining popularity in the education market delivering spaces that support modern teaching practices.

Late last year, Lauriston Girls’ School approached Harwyn to design two double storey music towers that would fit with the existing asthetic of the school and fit into a tight footprint. The two towers would provide the school with 4 new spaces that could be used primarily for music practice and tutor spaces as well as multi purpose spaces for the benefit of all faculty and students.

The Brief From Client

The client was already highly familiar with Harwyn Pods as they had visited other client schools to experience the Pods in situ. So the look and quality was clearly understood.

Being double storey, it was important that sound would be isolated into each individual pod.

It was critical for the installation to be completed within the first term break with a window of 14 days.

The design needed to be attractive to faculty, parent and students while fitting into the intricate framework and architecture of the existing building and its surroundings. The school felt that the contemporary design of the Harwyn Pods would naturally marry well with the existing Architecture of the school. Ultimately, once the project was complete, the idea was that the towers would look as though they had always been there.

In order to keep the footprint as tight as possible, access to the upper pods is gained from the existing school corridor pictured below.
