Project Overview
Harwyn delivered four purpose-built modular music pods for Tintern Grammar in Ringwood East, Victoria, providing the school with high-quality, acoustically treated spaces for instrumental music learning. Built in the factory over six weeks and installed on site in a single day, the new facilities gave Tintern a fast and permanent solution to growing demand for dedicated music spaces.

The Challenge
Tintern Grammar needed dedicated music spaces that could be delivered quickly, without waiting for a broader campus master plan to be completed.
At the time, instrumental lessons were taking place in whatever spaces could be found across the school, including lecture theatres, halls and even staff areas. It became clear the school was short on suitable rooms for music teaching and practice.
Any solution needed to feel permanent, reflect the quality of the campus and provide a comfortable, high-performing environment for both students and teachers.

The Solution
Harwyn designed and delivered four custom modular music pods tailored to Tintern Grammar’s needs.
The pods were designed to provide high-quality, acoustically treated spaces for music learning, with strong internal sound performance and minimal sound transfer to surrounding areas. Split-system air conditioning ensured year-round comfort, while finishes, colours and materials were selected to align with the character of the school.
Built off-site in the factory over six weeks and installed on campus in just one day, the project gave Tintern a rapid, low-disruption solution without compromising on quality or appearance.

The Outcome
The new music pods gave Tintern Grammar the dedicated teaching spaces it urgently needed, transforming the day-to-day delivery of music across the campus.
Staff and students responded very positively to the new facilities, particularly the acoustic quality, comfort and overall finish. What began as a practical response to a space shortage has become a valued part of the campus, with the music rooms now highly sought after by teaching staff.
The project demonstrated how purpose-built modular learning spaces can provide a fast, reliable and permanent-quality solution for schools under pressure.
