Harwyn’s Evolving Role in Australian Schools

As 2024 comes to a close, we reflect on another year of meaningful collaboration with schools across Australia. Through word-of-mouth and ongoing relationships, we’ve had the opportunity to design and deliver more learning environments that truly serve the needs of students and educators. With a number of interstate projects this year, we’re excited to be expanding the reach of our approach—providing quality educational spaces that arrive on time, on budget, and with minimal disruption to school life.

One highlight from 2024 was completing our largest building to date: a 750m² learning hub at Trinity Grammar in Kew. Comprised of six classrooms, four offices, ample breakout and circulation areas, and spanning two floors with double internal staircases, this project was installed smoothly and blends seamlessly with the existing school environment. We look forward to sharing photographs and a dedicated blog soon.

Our growing body of work has also led us to explore new directions in school design. From double-story buildings and double-height ceilings to hillside study villages, raised administration blocks, and 50m-long banks of classrooms with cantilevered covered walkways, each project has its own character. We’re excited to showcase these diverse spaces in the coming year once their photo shoots are complete.

Of course, we remain proud of our roots in music education facilities. Our small but impactful music pods continue to support creative learning across many schools. This year, we introduced “Harwyn Rocking the Nation,” a Battle of the Bands competition celebrating school-based musical talent and the spaces that help it flourish. As the year wraps up, we want to acknowledge the trust and support of the schools we work with. Their feedback, ideas, and ongoing dialogue push us to keep innovating and improving.
