Fast-tracked, purpose-built, and ready for Term 1 2026
Beaconhills College fast-tracked a new 1,400 m² modular food technology facility to replace its ageing building.
Designed and manufactured in Harwyn’s factory in a matter of months, the complex was installed on site in October 2025 and is now undergoing commissioning ahead of handover in mid-December.
The facility will be ready for students from Term 1 2026, delivered with minimal disruption to school life.
A complete modular food technology environment
- Two teaching kitchens
- A full commercial kitchen
- Dining and function spaces
- Staff areas
- Covered walkways connecting directly to the school’s thriving food gardens
A forward-thinking response to ageing facilities
When the existing food technology space began to deteriorate with ventilation and maintenance issues driving up repair costs, Beaconhills College faced a choice: repair or rebuild.
The school chose a forward-thinking approach, commissioning a purpose-built modular facility that could be delivered quickly, sustainably, and without compromise.
“Food studies is such a growing subject in our community that we knew we needed a purpose-built facility, and to do it as quickly as possible.”
— David Young, Business Manager, Beaconhills College
Designed for functionality, flow & flexibility
Working closely with the Beaconhills College team, Harwyn’s in-house architects developed a design that balanced functionality, flow, and flexibility.
Every element, from student movement between teaching areas to the layout of benches and storage zones was carefully considered to support the way modern food studies programs are taught.
“We were clear about what we needed, and the Harwyn design team really listened.
We haven’t had to compromise on anything.”
— David Young, Business Manager, Beaconhills College
From garden to kitchen: sustainability in action
Situated beside the school’s food gardens, the new facility enables a complete garden-to-kitchen learning cycle.
Students will grow, harvest and cook their own produce in an environment that brings sustainability and real-world learning together.
“The integration with the gardens and the landscape is outstanding.
It solves problems and opens new opportunities for our students.”

Speed, precision & minimal disruption
This project shows how modular design can deliver large, specialised education spaces with speed, precision, and minimal disruption to learning, and this one is nearing completion right on schedule.
With its contemporary design, durable finishes, and sustainable focus, the new Beaconhills Food Technology Hub reflects Harwyn’s commitment to helping schools create inspiring learning environments, faster and without compromise.
Stay tuned for the full case study and photography once the facility is complete.
